Haryana govt lays emphasis on conservation of environment

Chandigarh, Jun 26 (PTI) Haryana Environment and Forests Minister Capt Abhimanyu today said that the state government gives equal emphasis to the conservation of environment besides infrastructural development as it is equally necessary to take steps for maintaining ecological balance.

Addressing a gathering during a workshop on ‘Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation’ organised by NABARD (National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development) here, he said that the state government is making all efforts to maintain the bio-diversity and to prevent climate change.

“In this direction, the 500 meter area of Mangarbani Forest of Aravalli Range has been declared as Conserved Forest Area,” he said.

Capt Abhimanyu said that it is a matter of pride that oldest forest range is located in Haryana in the form of Aravalli Range and youngest in the form of Shivalik Range.

While emphasising on carrying out new research and surveys related to environment, he said that the state government has set a target to keep 20 per cent area of the total area of the state under green and forest cover.

At present, four per cent area has been made as green and forest cover, but a lot needs to be done in this direction, he said.

He said that ‘Har Ghar Hariyali’ scheme would be expanded and participation of people would be increased in it and schools, colleges, other institutions would be included in the implementation of this campaign.

“The state government gives equal emphasis to the conservation of environment besides infrastructural development as it is equally necessary to take steps for maintaining ecological balance,” he said.

Capt Abhimanyu said that ‘Van Mahotsav’ would be celebrated in the month of July and special efforts would be made to prevent dying of trees and plants.

He said the state government would extend all possible help to NABARD to conserve bio diversity and prevent climate change.

He said that in India, NABARD has been given the responsibility of the campaign that has been launched in the entire world regarding climate change.
