GURGAON: The state forest department has issued list of ‘dos’ and ‘don’ for the pubic ,in the wake of incidents of wild animals straying into human habitats and being attacked or lynched by mobs in the Aravalli hills of Gurgaon and Faridabad.
According to Krishna Mohan the financial commissioner and principle secretary, forests, the advisory suggested people not to establish an eye-to eye contact when faced with a wild animals.
“In the event of an animal entering somebody’ s house or farm, give way and do not surround it. Animals usually run away after seeing a human being. When besieged or encircled, the animals around,” the advisory said.
The advisory tells people to light fire or best drums to make noise in case they suspect that an animal is lurking around at night .
Krishna Mohan said, besides the advisory, with the responsibility of widely publicizing the safety measures among the people.
Leopard being covered under schedule 1 of the wild life Act, capturing injuring or killing of the animals is punishable with seven years ‘ imprisonment. Wild life has equal claim on the earth with human beings.
On January 12, a male leopard was lynched by a mob is that the gruesome sct was carried out in front of the senior government, police and forest official. On December18,2010,a leopard was attacked and killed in ferozpur Jirka in Mewat. An NGO had organized a series of seminars in villages near Aravalli to educate people about wild animals.
“It is we who are encroaching upon their habitats and not the otherwise. Killing leopard is not the solutions as they don’t attack often .The forest department should ensure the safety of leopards,” said Vivek Kambij of Haryali, an NGO.
Villagers complained that leopards attack them while they work in fields.

DECEMBAR 18,2010: leopard was attacked and killed in ferozpur Jirka in Mewat district.
JANUARY 12,2011: A mail leopard was lynched, barely 30 km from New Delhi.
