They would also furnish a picture shot of the tree form time to time.
Following a report carried in the Hindustan Times on November 20 on the large scale cutting of trees in Suhsant Lok, DLF City, and other HUDA sectors, the forest department had cracked down staring with Sushant Lok residents.
According to a door to door survey conducted by a local NGO Haryali thousands of trees were cut till the trunk or the trees were left without any leaves by the residents outside their house in various private as well as HUDA colonies.
Forest department officials launched an offensive in Sushant Lok and served notices on 30 residents for violation of section 4 of Punjab Land Preservation Act 1900 and Indian Forest Act 1927.
“We have served notices on 30 residents who had violated the rules by chopping of green tree either fully or partly outside their houses without seeking permission from the forest department, However, instead of taking punitive action against them, we have decided to take the corrective path and have given them a chance to rectify their mistake,” said District Range Forest Officer Devender Rao.
Rao said that all those who were served notices had been asked, first stroying greenery. “Second, they have been asked to submit an undertaking on a legal paper that they would plant four tall (at least six-feet) and grown up trees for each tree they cut outside their house,” Rao said.
Some of the erring residents have already submitted apologies and undertaking with us. In these undertaking, they have written that they would not only protect new trees with tree guards and water them on regular basis, they would also produce photographs of these trees every six month as a proof of their existence,” he added.
The person who made a decorative item of this tree will now have to plant four trees to replace it.
