GURGAON: Buckling under pressure from environment activists, the MCG has decided to dismantle the concrete cage which was being constructed inside the biodiversity park to feed birds. Activists are now asking who should be held responsible for wastage of public money. They also claimed that MCG commissioner Praveen Kumar appeared to be unsure about his plans for the biodiversity park during the four-hour-long meeting on Friday.
“Natural habitats do not have bird-feeding enclosures because birds should not be made dependent. Moreover, bird feeders in forests attract pigeons, crows, squirrels and rodents. These, in turn, destroy the nests and eggs of the birds on the ground and bushes. Small constructions are slowly destroying the natural undisturbed sense of this forest,” said Vivek Kamboj of Haryali NGO.
Some MCG officials claimed that the commissioner was not even aware of the cage. “The the commissioner was not aware of the construction. The moment this development came to his knowledge, construction was halted and he ordered the cage to be dismantled,” said a spokesperson.
